Patricia Coss-Maxwell
I believe that human diversity is integral to the care and education of young children and to all of those who touch their lives. In my opinion, it is crucial to enrich diversity with the inclusion of people of different races, genders, ethnicities, nationalities, economic backgrounds, legal status, ages, abilities, sexual orientation, and gender identity or expression, and religious beliefs. My goal is to promote awareness and acceptance, affirm equity, and take an active stance against bias to reach racial equity. I try to respect and value the differences in each person through all that I do. I appreciate developing solid relationships with my providers and colleagues to understand better how I respond to cultural and historical differences and constantly seek experiences, values, and practices. I am committed and open to an ongoing dialogue among my colleagues and providers. I am looking to contribute to creating an anti-bias community and speaking out against discrimination and racism.
My Background
My name is Patricia Coss-Maxwell. I was born and raised in Mexico City. In 1994 my family and I moved to Seattle, WA, and in 1999 we moved to Florida. We lived in Florida until 2010; then, we moved back to Seattle.
Since 2017, I have worked full-time for an excellent non-profit organization named Child Care Resources as an Early Achievers Coach. I have about 30 childcare providers in my caseload from diverse programs, from large centers to small FCCs, and different philosophies from Reggio to Traditional Education. The providers in my caseload are from diverse backgrounds. I feel fortunate to have providers from other cultures because I gain different perspectives. Also, I work part-time for North Seattle College as a Mentor and Assistant Instructor.
In my free time, I like to play with my puppy, Frida. She is a white Schnauzer mix. I am passionate about early childhood education, math, language, animals, and football (Go Steelers!).
